In an industry filled with lots of extremely talented people, as is the case with the custom car building arena, the only way to truly separate yourself from the rest of the pack is to do something that the next guy simply could not do. Gary Watson was born into the automotive refinishing business, and is the 3rd generation of professional in his family, with over 22 years of experience under his belt already. Not content with just fixing dents, scratches, and fender benders like your average body shop, Gary decided early on he would specialize in more exotic artistry. He learned airbrushing, and took up pinstriping, doing truly custom paintwork for the “not-your-average-customer”. Then, he happened upon something truly unique…Gary Watson and his wife Kristin are innovators in the genre because they are among the very limited company of refinishers who have mastered the art of painting in chrome.
Gary & Kristin’s shop Creations n’ Chrome is located a stone’s throw away from Los Angeles in California’s Santa Clarita Valley. Steadily growing since opening their doors in 2005, Creations n’ Chrome is on the cutting edge of automotive customization. Having built cars for trade shows, television programs, and high-profile auctions, their name may be one you will hear more and often in years to come. The Cn’C team’s first taste of the superstar spotlight came in 2008, when 2 separate car customization opportunities brought them to the SEMA Show in Las vegas, NV. The first, a Vortech Superchargers Project 2006 Mustang GT equipped with their V-3 V-Power Supercharging System, along with a myriad of aftermarket parts that read like a “who’s who” in the industry, had its exterior styling transformed by Watson & co. The second, a Ford Flex for Rap Artist Nelly featuring chrome painted body accessories by Cn’C, won best of show at the event. The following year, Creations n’ Chrome returned to SEMA with a fully customized Ford Focus painted a brilliant green chrome that won a Ford Special Recognition Award for Outstanding Achievement In Design. So impressed were Ford with Gary & Kristin’s ability to produce vehicles that emerge from their facility at a whole new level that in 2010 they provided them with a blank canvas in the form of their most prominent figurehead – the Mustang GT.
Partnering with the American Cancer Society to raise awareness against breast cancer, the “Pony Girl” Mustang GT was destined for greatness right from the start. Calling upon friends in the industry such as Vortech Superchargers, HRE Wheels, 3D Carbon Styling, KW Suspension, Wilwood Brakes, Corsa Exhaust and several others, Cn’C set about the task of making a car with show-stopping looks, but with the horsepower to back it up…and then some.Greeted at SEMA 2010 with non-stop jaw-dropping looks and photo ops, the Pony Girl Mustang GT was featured prominently in Ford’s booth exhibit, and won Best Of Show there, which was presented to Gary & Kristin at an awards ceremony in Ford’s Booth. Since that time, the Pony Girl Mustang has been seen catching eyes and turning heads at many American Cancer Society charity functions, on display at several Barrett-Jackson car auctions, and wowing the crowd at all sorts of car shows and automotive gatherings.
So, what’s next for Creations n’ Chrome? You’ll definitely want to stay tuned…we have heard news of a new project that will make its debut this year at the SEMA show that may be even more impressive!
